Hey Gang,
Can't believe it's November already and the time is flying by. You can slow it down a little by going to a few of the great events on tap this weekend.
It is a great weekend for theatre in the area. The Yellow Wallpaper is playing at the Fort Payne Opera House on November 12, 14, and 15. The show begins at 7:00 (plus weekend matinees at 2:00. Tickets are only $5.00. Directed by Paul Crawford, the play is a psychological thriller about a woman whose husband keeps her locked in her room (with its hideous yellow wallpaper) when she begins suffering from post-partum depression. Thanks to the confinement, she becomes increasingly more disturbed-developing split personalities and eventually going completely insane. Sound deliciously creepy doesn't it. Something you won't want to miss.
Also playing in our area is Arthur Miller's classic, Death of a Salesman at Northeast Alabama Community College. The story revolves around the life of Willy Loman and his journey as a fading post-war salesman in his quest for the American Dream. The play reminds us that the rat race for success and excess can be blinding. Performances will be November 13-15 and 20-22. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7 and Sunday matinees will begin at 2. You should probably call ahead to reserve your tickets. You can do so by calling 256-228-6001 or 638-4418, Extension 218. You don't want to miss this one!
Also on Saturday and Sunday, you might want to visit the Rock Bluff Art Show. It is held in a beautiful setting on the East Brow. This show is always a big hit. Take Highway 117 south to Cloudland and turn left on Highway 157. Follow the signs from there. I will be there all weekend and look forward to seeing you there.
Also, mark your calendars for Satuday, November 28, 2009, for an event sponsored by the Mentone Area Arts Council, Christmas in Mentone. It will begin at 6:30 with a reception for our local artists. At 7:30, entertainment will be provided by the Liz Wood Project from Gadsden. It is going to be a great event and admission at the door is only $10 per person. I will send more detailed information in a separate email.
Finally, we would like to encourage you to Buy Handmade on the Mountain This Holiday Season. There is nothing better than receiving a specially chosen, one-of-a-kind work of originality. Whether it goes on the living room wall or on the dining room table, in a special niche or around your neck, art is special and deserves special recognition from the buyer and recipient. These kinds of purchases and gifts are the ones which come with a story and are treasures that keep on giving even into the future. This holiday season, buy art and make it something unique, unusual, and special for everyone involved.
Well, that's it for this week. Hope to see you out there. As always, please pass this information along to anyone you think might be interested.
